You’re either a Purple Cow or you’re not. You’re either remarkable or invisible. Make your choice.
Face it, the checklist of tired ‘P’s marketers have used for decades to get their product noticed -Pricing, Promotion, Publicity, to name a few-aren’t working anymore. There’s an exceptionally important ‘P’ that has to be added to the list. It’s Purple Cow.
Before jumping to the main post, I’d like to apologize for not writing for the past 5 days. I’ve been busy helping my mom, setting up her new restaurant. Basically I work part time there after I got back from my day job as a programmer, which left me almost no time to blog. Well anyway, now that she’s hired a few helping hands, my hours at the restaurant has been reduced. I do still have some part time shift there, but at least now I have time to blog again.
Anyway, the idea of this post came by when I meet a college friend last weekend. We were both major in informatics there. However, unlike me, he became bored with programming and later changed job to a marketing staff. When we met, he brought this book (yeah, you guess it right), Purple Cow. At first I was interested in the bright purple cover with white spots.
To cut the long story short (and not to keep you bored
) , he lent it to me and was quickly hooked to it!. Although Seth Godin originally wrote the book on a general marketing point of view, I decided to bring it to a more familiar niche, which is the internet marketing blog (or make money online blog, for you John Chow die hard fans out there).
The first thing that come to my mind for such blog is DoshDosh. At a first glance, you might thought that the blog was originally design for some kind of anime otaku blog (which I also originally thought so either, especially after seeing the cute anime girls). But after reading a few posts Maki (DoshDosh’s owner, which I assumed is an alias) wrote, I was absorbed to the blog posts.
Being a major in psychology and literature, some knowledge in internet marketing and making money online and also a slight touch of anime girls cuteness (ugh, forgive me for being perverted anime fans), Maki has created a blog which has in depth tips and tricks in internet marketing and making money online which was also fun and relaxing to read.
Basically why I choose DoshDosh to be a Purple Cow blog in the internet marketing niche is because, because the fact that he (Yes, for all know, Maki is a guy. Sorry to disappoint you perverted anime girl fans out there) managed to build a large readership based blog (at least that’s what I see in the feed count, number of backlinks etc), unlike other problogger who loves to show off their photos holding paychecks, Maki chose to be anonymous and kept low profile.
My vote in this Purple Cow Case Study definitely goes to Maki’s DoshDosh. So what’s your vote on Purple Cow blog? Or do you think your blog is Purple Cow enough? Feel free to post your comment.
